2. 2023 dues are due. You can Venmo Rob K. at @Rob-Kiernan-CRABS or give him cash or a check at a meeting. It’s $25 for singles and $40 for couples.

4. We will have a food-pairing on Sunday May 21 (postponed from April 30), 1-6 PM, at Rob K’s house. There is a planning sheet at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZP118YeacGlSP-QQ2lWHFUroEMKXoabYOeHFJWPpdBI/edit?usp=sharing where you can add your name to the Attendees list. If you and a partner plan to bring food/beer, you can list it in the Beer/Food Pairing list. If you’re looking for someone to pair up with, you can add your name to the People Looking For a Partner list.

5. Big Brew will be on Saturday May 6, and there will be a brewing event at Maryland Homebrew’s new location at 9017-C Mendenhall Court. There aren’t many electrical hookups, and there is no 240-volt hookup.

6. BURP's Spirit of Free Beer will be on Saturday April 29 at Clear Skies Meadery. Entries are due this Friday April 21. See https://sofb.brewcomp.com/ for more info.

7. On Saturday, May 13th, 12-4 pm, the local neighborhood association in Federal Hill will do a homebrew competition to raise funds for Federal Hill Prep School located diagonally from the Cross Street Market in south Baltimore. They need 1-3 more homebrewers to make it a solid competition. Attendees will vote for their favorite beer (no judges). The community is expecting around 100 attendees. Sign up at

10. The Guild picnic will be on Saturday June 3 at Patapsco State Park Hollofield area shelter #300. There will be a hedonistic homebrew competition. Our own Chris Hermance is organizing the event and Tom Flavin will run the homebrew competition.

12. This year’s HomebrewCon will be in San Diego on June 22-24. A few CRABSters are going. The website is https://www.homebrewcon.org/

13. MASHOUT will be August 17-20 at the same Cumberland location. More details to come.

14. This month’s competition was Manor Hill IPA clone. 11 entries were judged by Manor Hill employees Daryl (head brewer), Meg, and Milhouse (who is also a former CRABS president). Winners were:

  • 3rd – Pete Werle
  • 2nd – Marty Mengele
  • 1st – Trevor Rose

15. Next meeting: Wednesday May 17. Competition will be random ingredients that were selected earlier this year: pils malt for the base, 80‑Lovibond crystal (at least 2%), flaked oats (at least 5%), amber malt (at least 3%), El Dorado hops, Nelson Sauvin hops, and Safale 04 yeast.
