February 2023

1. 2023 dues are due. You can Venmo Rob K. at @Rob-Kiernan-CRABS or give him cash or a check at a meeting. It’s $25 for singles and $40 for couples.

2. We will do a Light Rail pub crawl on Saturday April 1. The tentative plan is to go to 3 stops and visit a brewery or two at each. There is an email group for planning this; to be added to it, contact Ben at the address you get the minutes from every month.

3. The April competition will be Manor Hill IPA clone. The recipe is attached to the email; scale it down to the volume you plan to brew. Manor Hill employees will attend our meeting and judge the entries.

4. We will have a food-pairing on Sunday April 30, 1-6 PM, at Rob K’s house. There is a planning sheet at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZP118YeacGlSP-QQ2lWHFUroEMKXoabYOeHFJWPpdBI/edit?usp=sharing where you can add your name to the Attendees list. If you and a partner plan to bring food/beer, you can list it in the Beer/Food Pairing list. If you’re looking for someone to pair up with, you can add your name to the People Looking For a Partner list.

5. Big Brew will be on Saturday May 6, and there will be a brewing event at Maryland Homebrew’s new location at 9017-C Mendenhall Court. There aren’t many electrical hookups, and there is no 240-volt hookup.

6. In May we will have our Random Ingredients competition. The ingredients will be pils malt for the base, 80‑Lovibond crystal (at least 2%), flaked oats (at least 5%), amber malt (at least 3%), El Dorado hops, Nelson Sauvin hops, and Safale 04 yeast.

7. The Guild picnic will be on Saturday June 3 at Patapsco State Park Hollofield area shelter #300. A leader to coordinate the event is needed. We also need someone to run the wheat beer competition. If interested in coordinating either, contact Ben.

8. This year’s HomebrewCon will be in San Diego on June 22-24. The website is https://www.homebrewcon.org/

9. This month’s competition was UK beers. There were 8 entries. Winners were:
