July 2021

1. We returned to Heavy Seas for the first time in 17 months and had about 16 attendees.  In addition to beer we had some snacks including Tahanka Brothers key lime pie ice cream courtesy of Rob K.

2. MASHOUT will be held August 19-22. Cost is $45 per person, plus processing fees. Same location as 2019. Currently there are only about 34 people signed up so please register ASAP because it might be canceled if there isn't an increase soon.  The registration link is https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/5173603

3. Crabs4CRABS will be held in September. Most likely dates are the 11th or the 12th. A survey will be sent asking people to vote for their preferred date.

4. There will be a homebrew fest in Catonsville on Saturday September 11th to benefit Katie’s Bridge to Independence, which supports young adults with neuromuscular disease become more independent through academic scholarships and small home adaptions. Cost is $30, or a keg of homebrew gets you in free. Two live bands and food provided. See https://www.katiesbridgetoindependence.org/ for the organization’s website. Information for this year’s event is not up yet so check periodically.

5. Maryland Microbrewery Festival and homebrew competition will happen on Saturday September 25 at Union Mills Homestead in Westminster. Festival website is http://www.marylandmicrobreweryfestival.com/ and homebrew competition website is https://mdmicrobrewfest.brewcompetition.com/

6. There won’t be a Guild crab feast because NASA Goddard is not fully open yet, but there will be a 100-person event on Saturday September 18 at a pavilion somewhere in Howard County. It will be for friends and family of Zymernauts, invitation only, and Zymernauts will brew the beer for it. A message will be sent out with a code to purchase tickets.

7. CRABS will have a food-beer pairing sometime in October. Since there are several festivals that month we will figure an exact date later.

8. Homebrew Extravaganza will return this year on Wednesday October 20 at Checkerspot. See the Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/events/340233371039304/?ref=newsfeed

9. The Guild holiday party will be at a different location because Heavy Seas is no longer available due to adding a lot of equipment including a new canning line, 15 bbl brew house, etc. Possible alternatives are Key Brewing, Union Brewing, BC Brewery, and Arbutus Town Hall (CRABSter Mike E. might be able to get this for us).

10. We hope to resume first Thursday happy hours. The CRABS website has Black Flag listed for August 5th but we will confirm later.

11. Next meeting: Wednesday August 18 (tentative; we might move it a week ahead or back due to MASHOUT).

12. Go to http://crabsbrew.org for CRABS-related information.
