November 2020

After 3 months of in-person meetings at Checkerspot, we are back to Zoom meetings because of a spike in Covid-19 cases.  This will undoubtedly be a rough winter for everyone, with limited indoor gatherings, cold weather which will make outdoor gatherings tough, and reduced sales for businesses.

Speaking of businesses, Maryland Homebrew is still open to supply your homebrewing needs.  It’s curbside pickup.  Visit mdhb.com to view products and use the code “club” for a 10% discount, or email Chris at chrisanderson@mdhb.com to place your order.  For full bags of grain you have to email because bags are not sold through the website.

White Labs gave us a bunch of yeasts, including Zurich lager, Antwerp ale, Opshaug kviek ale, and Lacto plantarum.  If you’re interested in any of these, contact Jeff at jeffade@mac.com

We had over a dozen attendees and discussed various topics such as hop oxidation, HomebrewCon, sour IPAs, bicycle DUIs, local microbrews, stuck mashes with Avangard grains, streaming services, and more.

It’s kind of early but the 2021 HomebrewCon, *if* it happens, is slated for San Diego on June 17-19, 2021.  Hotel information is at https://www.homebrewcon.org/2021-hotel-information/ The San Diego area has a lot of breweries, so plan to Uber or use public transportation where possible.

Next meeting: Wednesday December 16.
