September 2021

1. The homebrew fest in Catonsville on Saturday September 11th was a huge success. $7000 was raised to benefit Katie’s Bridge to Independence, which helps young adults with neuromuscular disease become more independent through academic scholarships and small home adaptions. It will be held again next year the Saturday after Labor Day (9/10/2022).

2. Crabs4CRABS will be held this Sunday September 19th from 12:00 to 6:00 at Guilford Park, 9900 Guilford Rd, Jessup MD (the usual location). There is no cost for CRABS dues paying members.  Guests are welcome, but there is a $20 charge for each quest.  We will also provide brisket and/or pulled pork in addition to the crabs.  Please sign up on the following Google document so we know how much to get:

3. Maryland Microbrewery Festival and homebrew competition is coming up.

4. The Hops & Harvest Festival will take place on Saturday October 2 at Merriweather Park / Symphony Woods. The website lists about 18 Maryland breweries, plus a bunch of distilleries, wineries, and cideries. For more info see https://www.facebook.com/events/188704933266435 or https://hopsandharvestfest.com/

5. That same day, a little further away in Kennett Square PA, the Kennett Brewfest with take place, with 70+ breweries. See https://kennettbrewfest.com/ for more info.

6. The next First Thursday happy hour will be on Thursday October 7 at Diamondback Brewing starting at 5:00. It’s walking distance from World of Beer so perhaps we’ll hit both places.

7. The Snallygaster festival will be held on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington D.C. on Saturday October 9. The website lists about 200 breweries from all over the U.S. and Germany. See https://www.snallygasterdc.com/ for more info.

8. The annual CRABS Food & Beer pairing will be Saturday October 16 from 1:00 to 6:00 at Rob Kiernan’s house (2315 Old Frederick Rd, Catonsville MD). Pair up with another CRABS member or your significant other to bring a food dish (main, side, or dessert) and a beer that pairs well with it.  We will also have a competition to select the best beer, best food, and best pairing.  Please sign up on the following Google document:

9. Homebrew Extravaganza will return this year on Wednesday October 20 at Checkerspot. (We will move our monthly meeting a week earlier or later.) This is always a great event. Serve your beer and get free entrance, or pay just $10 for all you can drink. All proceeds go to BARCS. See the Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/events/340233371039304/?ref=newsfeed

10. The Beer, Bourbon & BBQ Festival will be held on October 29-30 at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium. See https://timonium.beerandbourbon.com/ for more info.

11. The Guild holiday party might happen on Saturday December 4 at Key Brewing. Due to Covid, as well as a less convenient location than in years past, we are not sure we will have enough people to make this happen. We are gauging interest via a Google Docs survey. You should have received an email from our Guild rep Tom Flavin with a link to the survey. Please fill it out – there is only one question that needs to be answered, so it will take literally seconds.

12. Next meeting: TBD (either 10/13 or 10/27).

13. Go to http://crabsbrew.org for CRABS-related information.
